The business issue
The top team was not working effectively. Meetings were too long, and decisions were not being made. Staff were restless, and the cost to the organization was starting to add up.

What we discovered
By observing the team, talking to them, and analysing their responses to a questionnaire, it became clear that the MD had unwittingly hired individuals with the same makeup. They were colliding with, rather than complementing, each other. This led to a stalemate in resolving issues and making decisions. Compounding this, they did not have an efficient process for running their agenda.

In addition, the team members were not clear on each other's roles and how these fitted together. Time was being wasted debating who was accountable for what. They also had individual issues which were getting in the way.

What we did next
We demonstrated to the team how similar they all were, and how this was deadlocking their discussions. We helped them to ensure they were not sabotaged in future by their own behaviour.

We also clarified their individual roles, and helped them to see how they fitted together operationally to deliver the strategy. In addition, each of the team members took up our offer of individual coaching, finding it easier to address their specific challenges in this way.

The outcome
The team came together as a real leadership team and started to deliver their business goals.
