A marketing solutions provider

The business issue
The Board was made up of individuals from merged companies. The MD was concerned about team communication issues that were making Board meetings unproductive.

What we discovered
Each team member had a different view as to the company's goals, and about who was responsible for what. They all could see that customer service was suffering, but their response was to blame each other.

What we did next
We brought the team together and took them back to basics to consider:

  • Why the company existed
  • How its success could or should be measured
  • The extent to which the washing line of products and services they delivered contributed to the company's mission and measures of success.

This process got the whole team to see the same picture of the company. By spelling out the company's value chain, it also highlighted the products and services which added no value and should be dropped.

We then helped the team to identify the key roles in the company, and how they fitted, or should fit, together. These were set out in a document which became an expression of how the company was to operate from then on as one company.

The outcome
The MD was delighted with the outputs which gave him the tools to cement the three companies into one. The work helped him to stand back and get clarity about what to focus on to turn the company's fortunes around.
